Darren "Champ" Jenkins

Darren “Champ” Jenkins Jr. is a musician, songwriter, producer,and composer, born and raised in the South Bronx section of New York. At the age of two, Darren’s parents purchased his first drum set, igniting a fire and planting a seed for a lifelong love of music. Throughout his childhood, Darren’s musical inclinations grew and he began to explore other instruments. His passion for music was cultivated while playing both the drums and keyboard in church. During this time, he also began to write and produce songs. Darren’s dedication to learning and growing paved the way for many of the opportunities that he has been provided with and his ability to share his gifts with the world. 

 

Producing for both mainstream and up and coming artists in different genres, Darren’s influence spans far and wide. Some of his collaborations with gospel artists include Donnie McClurkin, Maranda Curtis, Redeemed, Alic Walls, and Peter Collins. Other artists include Kenny Lattimore, Angie Rose, Damien Escobar, Th3 Saga, and Jake Miller. Not only this, Darren has also appeared on FOX 5 NY and produced music for several TV shows such as Detroit Muscle, Alpha 8, Truck Tech, and World Poker Tour. He also produced the theme song for BET’s hit show, Carl Weber’s The Family Business. Jenkins is decorated with nominations and awards that are a testament to his hard work and commitment, having won the 2020 Pearl Award for Producer of the Year. He was also nominated for a 2018 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album for his work on Damien Escobar’s Boundless album, which charted number one on billboards in 2017. 

 

His father, Darren Jenkins Sr. aka J. Dibbs, is a multi-platinum producer and recording artist who showed “Champ” how to be successful in this industry without compromising integrity. His mother, Tonia Jenkins, who is the author of three books and his wife, Kimberly “Kimmy” Jenkins, who is a recording artist also serve as influences in his life. 

 

Outside of his work in the studio, Darren is currently the Music Director for world renowned violinist, Damien Escobar. He is also the founder and CEO of his own music company, ChampMuzik Productions LLC. Under this company, he released his first solo project in 2020, Angels. “Champ” is continually working to improve his craft and grow his company, with plans for more personal and collaborative projects to be released in the near future.
